Tax Free Shopping For Foreign Tourists in Japan

Tax free shopping is now available in all Mandarake stores for foreign tourists who are staying in Japan for up to six months.

Nakano Store

Step 1

Take the items you wish to buy to the cashier.
Pay the full price, including the 10% sales tax.

Step 2

When you have finished shopping at Mandarake, please proceed to the Service Counter on the 4th floor (open until 19:30).

Please present your passport, sales receipts and items to the Tax-Free Counter staff and they will fill out a tax-free record to go in your passport.
Please check the document to make sure the details are correct.
You will receive your tax refund in cash after signing the document.
The process will take about 5 minutes, though it may take longer if you have made large purchases.

Shibuya Store

Step 1

Take the items you wish to buy to the cashier.
Pay the full price, including the 10% sales tax.

Step 2

When you have finished shopping at Mandarake, please proceed to the Tax-Free Counter (open until 19:30).
Please present your passport, sales receipts and items to the Tax-Free Counter staff and they will fill out a tax-free record to go in your passport.
Please check the document to make sure the details are correct.

Sapporo, Utsunomiya, LaLaLa (Ikebukuro), Nayuta (Ikebukuro) and Kokura stores.

Take the items you wish to buy to the register.
Tell the cashier that you want a tax exemption.
Show your passport to the staff member and they will fill a tax-free record to go in your passport.
Please check that the information on the document is ok and then sign it.
Pay the price without tax and you can take your items with you.

Complex (Akihabara), Nagoya, Umeda (Osaka), Grand Chaos (Osaka) and Fukuoka stores.

Step 1

Take the items you wish to buy to the register.
Tell the cashier that you want a tax exemption and show them your passport.
The cashier will give you a number, please keep it safe.
Pay the price without tax and leave your products at the register. Our staff will take them to the Tax-Free counter.

Step 2

If you want to buy more products from the other departments, show your number to member of staff at the register and pay the price without tax.
Leave the products at the counter and please do not forget to take your number.

Step 3

When you have finished shopping, please proceed to the Tax-Free counter (open until 19:00).
Show your passport to the Tax-Free counter staff and they will fill out the required document. Please check that the information on the document is ok and then sign it. You will then receive your products.

Conditions for 10% Tax Exemptions and Tax Refunds

  • Presentation of your original passport is required. (Photocopies are not accepted)
  • Tax exemption is only available for overseas visitors not living in Japan who have been here for less than 6 months. ("Re-Entry" permission is not eligible)
  • If you use a credit card, the name on the card must match the passport.
  • The total purchase amount must be 5,000 yen before tax (5,500 with tax) or over. If the total purchase amount is over 1 million yen, we are required to take a photocopy of your passport.
  • Tax exemption and tax refunds can only be made on the day of purchase. We cannot refund the tax paid from past purchases.
  • Tax exemption and tax refunds can only be processed at the store that items are purchased from. In the case of Nakano, the Mandarake Service counter will process tax refunds from all Mandarake stores in Nakano Broadway only.

Shipping

  • Domestic shipping (e.g. to your hotel) is available, but the domestic shipping fee will contain tax.
  • International shipping is not allowed for tax-free purchases. If you wish to ship your items internationally with us, you will not able to have a tax refund or tax exemption.
